Hross í Oss

I saw a brilliant movie this evening – definitely one of the best Icelandic films I’ve ever seen. Powerful, whimsical, enchanting. Although it isn’t necessarily environmentally-themed, it gives a beautiful glimpse into the Icelandic countryside, which one never tires of seeing, and perfectly displays the tortured relationship between man and nature. Its working English title is “Of Horses and Men,” so when it comes to your local independent movie establishment (Richmond, VA is home to the fine Video Fan, and I’m sure they’ll have it there soon) definitely have a look. One thing I enjoyed very much was the lack of dialogue – a person of any language could understand the vignettes and their roots in the small Icelandic village without subtitles.
